“It is a great honor for us to join in the Road to Tokyo 2020 Program, providing university facilities.”  Then Dr. Sanada mentioned professor Jigoro Kano, the father of Judo. “He was the principal of the forerunner of our university for more than 23 years. During that time, he founded a class for pupils with intellectual disabilities in the elementary school of our university in 1908.” “He promoted the development of student’s communication ability through sport activities.” “He tried to promote physical education and sport for all people, beyond sexuality, age, disability and nationality. Therefore, I think it is meaningful to hold such a wonderful program at the University of Tsukuba given its small contribution to the history of disability sport and education in Japan. I believe we will promote the Paralympic Movement through this program and hope that we can make this legacy of Tokyo 2020.”

Mr. Tomohiro Ida (Secretaty General, Japanese Paralympic Committee) and Mr. Yukihiko Nunomura (Chief Operating Officer, Tokyo2020) gave welcome addresses as well.
