Online course “Jigoro KANO and the Olympic Movement” will start from 29 March 2018. The course is given by Professor Hisashi SANADA and Associate Professor Taro OBAYASHI. They are active in the Olympic education as members of Centre for Olympic Research and Education (CORE)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You may know Jigoro KANO as the founder of Kodokan Judo (\u8b1b\u9053\u9928\u67d4\u9053). However, Kano is famous for not only for Judo, but also an educator who reformed school education in Japan. He was the principal for 23-years-and-a-half (for three times) at Higher Educational School \/ Tokyo High Normal School (both are predecessor schools of the University of Tsukuba).<\/p>\n

KANO was the first IOC member in Asia who work active on the world. In the overwhelmingly disadvantaged situation, he succeeded in inviting the 1940 Tokyo Competition, which later became known as “the Phantom Tokyo Olympic Games”.<\/p>\n

“Seiryoku-Zenyo” (maximum efficient use of energy; \u7cbe\u529b\u5584\u7528) and “Jita-Kyoei” (mutual prosperity for self and others; \u81ea\u4ed6\u5171\u6804) are important messages left by KANO.<\/p>\n

In this course, we will look back on the achievements of Jigoro KANO who built a connection between Japan and the world through sports from a global perspective. Furthermore, we will seek our direction in contemporary Japan with various social issues with globalization advanced.<\/p>\n

We would like to think with everyone what we shold convey to our society after the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.<\/p>\n
